Beauty: Wash n’ Go Tutorial 4b/4c Hair

I have taken an EXTREMELY long hiatus from my blog, as well as YouYube. I’m ashamed because I was just getting started! But I recently graduated and I’m on summer break so I have no excuse.

To give you a bit of an update I FINALLY did the big chop! Since then I’ve cut my hair again and I’m rocking a high top fade Grace Jones/Kid style lol. I don’t wear it picked out often, and I actually prefer to wear my hair in a curly state. When I first cut it I tried the twist outs, and braid outs, and bantu knot outs and to be honest I didn’t like it. I actually like my hair in a shrunken state rather than stretched. With that being said the Wash n’ go became my best friend!

Now it sounds like I just get out of the shower and head out the door but that’s not exactly the case. It involves some gel to define the curls and a bit of drying time so If you have somewhere to go you better do this early! I use to use a diffuser to dry my hair but I’ve found that letting my hair air dry produces the best results. Instead of typing out step by step exactly what I do, I’ve made a video to show you guys! Check it out!

I DID IT! My first YouTube Video!

Yep…it did it…i took the plunge! I’ve allways thought it would be fun to make videos for youtube but I was allways too scared. I think that blogging has eliminated some of the fear. My first video is about the hair that I have installed. I love watching hair reviews and tutorials so I decided to make my own. I’m still kind of nervous about what other people will think about it. I know I have plenty of room for improvement but it’s just the start! Tell me what you guys think!

Beauty: I’ve Found The Cure!

I’ve…..been….CURED!!! Lol, I’m sure you want to know what the heck I’m talking about soooo…..I’ve been cured of cake face!!!!! By cake face I mean the gross appearance my makeup takes on at the end of the day after having worn makeup all day and my pores have made my face the site of the next great oil spill in America -_- . I have very oily skin and once I started wearing makeup I realized that oily skin and makeup does not mix. I’m still fairly new to the makeup game so I was in a panic! I was planning to change my foundation (Maybelline Fit Me), I was seeking out new facial cleansers, and I gave up on my primer (ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer)! I turned to YouTube for a miracle cure to oily skin while wearing makeup and found this….

Say hello to my new face primer! This stuff is a God send! All the ladies on YouTube were spot on when they said this stuff worked. I didn’t even get name brand, I just grabbed a bottle from my local Dollar Tree. Before I apply my makeup I still make sure to cleanse my face and apply moisturizer. Next I take my finger and rub some milk of magnesia on my cheeks and in my t-zone cause those are the areas that tend to get oily. Once it dries I apply my makeup as usual and head out! I get ready for school at about 10am and when I get home at about 9pm there is no oil slick on my face. I had went and bought blotting papers to control the oil and I honestly have had no need for them. Here are some pictures of my face on Monday at about 2pm and at about 10:30 after I got home from work.

Most inexpensive face primer ever you guys! Have any of you tried it, or plan to? Comment below and let me know!

Beauty: Mac Dupes!!!

This post is about my latest makeup obsession….lipstick! It all started with my search to find the perfect red and the perfect bright pink for my skin tone. I would watch youtube videos and one color I saw all the guru’s using was Candy Yum Yum by MAC. Unfortunately, I wasn’t quite ready to spend that much money on lipstick. One day I will become a MAC girl and have PLENTY of MAC products but I’m new to the makeup game and personally I feel that it’s not the brand that guarantees a beautiful beat, it’s how you apply the products. Drugstore brands can give you the same effect as high end products if you apply them right. Once I learn the tips and tricks to master a flawless face, then I’ll move on to MAC.

In the meantime I’m all about dupes! I can’t afford MAC so i’ll take the next best thing. I found this picture on Instagram and I’m super excited to go out and buy them ALL!!! Lol, not at once but eventually they’ll all be mine! I already have one color on the list, and that’s Wet n’ Wild Sugar Plum Fairy. I got it this fall when I was looking for great vampy shades to wear during the season. Its a dupe for MAC Rebel. Another MAC product that I was DYING to get my hands on was the Nightmoth lipliner. It seemed like EVERYONE had it, and it looked great with all the red and plum shades. I finally found a dupe for it which I plan to purchase and thats the Revlon Colorstay Lipliner in Vixen. Hopefully I can get my hands on all of these lippies-i’ll search high and low! Tell me what you think about cosmetic dupes!

Beauty: FOTD

Today’s face is  my go to everyday look. Some people may not like a smokey eye using black eyeshadow for everyday wear, but it’s just my favorite look. Not too much highlighting or contouring going on today either. Lately I’ve noticed that about an hour or two after I apply my makeup my face gets really oily around my t-zone, and I believe it has to do with my skin care regimen. Today I made a little adjustment by using witch hazel to clean and tone my face before I apply my primer and 3 hours later still no oil! Here’s the products I used to create this look.

e.l.f Mineral Infused Face Primer

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (Color 340)

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal (Fawn)

Ben Nye Translucent Face Powder (Topaz)

e.l.f. High Definition Powder (Translucent)

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder (Antigua)

Beauty: Lets Not Forget About Hair!

Today I thought about something that I haven’t talked about in any of my beauty posts and that’s hair. Hair is a part of every woman’s beauty regimen so I figured it was about time I gave it some spotlight. I have had relaxed hair since the 4th grade and this year I made the decision to go natural. My last relaxer was in February of this year and I plan to do the big chop in February of 2014. Even though its been almost a year I’ve been having reservations but hopefully by February I’ll be able to overcome my fear. In my previous posts I have Marley Twists installed in my hair. I did them myself and I was so proud of myself! It took me about 2 days because I had to go to work in between. I kept them in for about a month and when I took them out yesterday I needed a new protective hairstyle. I remember seeing YouTube tutorials about updos with the Marley Hair used to create the twists so I decided to recreate one of those looks with one of my extra packs of Marley Hair. Here’s the final result!

P.S.-These are some of the first shots I took with my new camera!

This is the tutorial I used to create this bun

Beauty: First Full Face!

IMG_2343Well I finally put all that makeup I got during cyber monday to good use. I’m no professional but I don’t think I did half bad! My only complaint would have to be the foundation. I think I may need a slightly darker shade, or instead of mixing the two shades I’ll just stick with the darker of the two. If you didn’t see my post on it, the foundation I used was the Maybelline Fit Me in colors 330 and 340. 330 is the lighter shade.

Two other products I used that I haven’t mentioned in any of my posts are the powder  and concealer. To set the foundation I used the Ben Nye Translucent Face Powder in Topaz. Yes, I had to hop on the Ben Nye craze. For those who don’t know, the Ben Nye Banana Powder is what Kim Kardashian revealed that she uses to achieve the perfect highlight. What’s so amazing about the banana powder is that it compliments practically ANY skin tone. I’m a beginner so I decided to stay away from the banana powder because I didn’t want to end up looking like a complete ghost. I do plan to add it to my collection later. I did attempt some highlighting and contouring but clearly I need a bit more practice. To highlight I used the LA Girl’s HD Pro conceal in the color Fawn. Again I learned about these on YouTube. LA Girl’s products are sold in stores like Family Dollar, or any local Beauty Supply store, therefore I was shocked when MUA’s that use high-end products like MAC were raving about these concealers. They retail for no more than $2, maybe $2.50 at the most and come in a wide variety of shades, including darker shades for women of color. I snagged three colors from a seller on eBay. To blend out the concealer I used a little egg-shaped sponge that I got off eBay as well. The original sponge like this is called the Beauty Blender but I got two  dupes for it for less than $3. I’ll be sure to list where to find each of these items.

On my eyes I used my BH Cosmetics 120 Pallete (2nd Edition), and on my lips I have an e.l.f. moisturizing lipstick in Ravishing Rose. I am IN LOVE with this color! I’ll probably wear it almost every day.

There was one other issue that I had that is  probably not related to the makeup. A couple of hours after wearing the makeup my skin was a bit oily in my t zone and especially on my cheeks. I have oily skin and I am trying out a new skin care regimen that may need some adjusting. I’ll post about my skin care routine also. I plan to keep practicing and hopefully my work will improve. Visit my post about my E.L.F. Cyber Monday Haul to see all the e.l.f. products I used. Here’s a list of where you can find the other items.

Beauty: Arrival of E.L.F. Goodies!!!

So the e.l.f. products from my Cyber Monday haul have FINALLY arrived! I’m super excited! I’m so ready to try out each product and review them. This week I have finals but after Thursday I’ll have more time to focus on my blog. Here’s some pics of the stuff I got(especially my 11 piece studio brush set)! More detailed review coming later!

Beauty: Maybelline Fit Me Foundation

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: Shades 340 and 330

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: Shades 340 and 330

When most girls start wearing makeup, the first thing they purchase is foundation to cover up skin blemishes that come with acne during the teenage years. I have acne as well but I was always afraid to purchase foundation. Looking at all the different shades and brands seemed like such a daunting task. Instead I decided to focus on controlling my acne. It’s important to take care of your skin under makeup so now that my skin has improved, I’m ready to take that step. After watching videos on full face tutorials, I took note of some of the foundations used by my favorite gurus. As a beginner I was more interested in the drugstore brands like Revlon, Covergirl, or Maybelline so I decided to watch reviews on some of their foundations. One of the newer foundations from Maybelline that caught my eye is their Fit Me Foundation. It’s most appealing feature is its wide range of shades formulated for women of color. As an African-American it can be difficult to find shades that compliment the highlights and undertones of our skin. It is said to have light to medium coverage, and blends well into the skin. I purchased shades 330 and 340 to mix together and apply. I have yellow undertones in my skin and 340 was a bit too red. Once my brush set from E.L.F. arrives I’ll be back with an update and full review!

Beauty: E.L.F. Cyber Monday Haul!

To start off my makeup journey, I took advantage of Cyber Monday 2013. One website that I was dying to purchase from was or e.l.f. for short. E.L.F. is another “budget friendly” brand that I happen to love. You can find E.L.F. products at stores like Target, or even Dollar Tree. My first purchase from E.L.F. was their eyelid primer. I was beginning to experiment with eye makeup so most of my products were very low-end with little pigmentation. I wanted my eye-shadow to last longer but wasn’t ready to dish out the cash to buy “high-end” primers like the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I ran across the E.L.F. primer in a local dollar tree and made the purchase. I was in LOVE! It stopped my eye-shadow from creasing and helped lighter shades show up better. But that was just the beginning.

For their Cyber Monday Sale, E.L.F. had a 50% off sitewide sale with free shipping on orders over $35. My main purpose in purchasing from their site was to get their 11 Piece Studio Brush Set, however, I decided to take advantage of the deal! In all I purchased $70 dollars worth of makeup for $35! Here’s a list of the items I purchased.

Eye Widener – White

Moisturizing Lipstick – Cheeky

Baked Bronzer – Los Cabos

Mineral Infused Face Primer – Clear

Precision Liquid Eyeliner – Black

Moisturizing Lipstick – Ravishing Rose

High Definition Powder – Translucent

Brush Shampoo

Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder – Antigua

Makeup Mist & Set

It’s all scheduled to arrived Wednesday and I cant wait to do a review on each item for you. I may be difficult to do an entire post on all these items without it being super lengthy but I’ll try to make it work. I am trying to get a camera for Christmas and I’m thinking about making YouTube videos of my own. But until then, definitely check out They are doing what they are calling the ” e.l.f. days of Xmas” and there are 5 days left! Hurry before the deals are gone!
